international programme
The artistic signature of hetpaleis extends far beyond the borders of Flanders. With a strong focus on quality, imagination, and artistic boldness, we are building an international profile that appeals to artists, festivals, and programmers. In doing so, we contribute to a vibrant international dialogue on performing arts for young audiences.

international distribution of our work
hetpaleis collaborates with both renowned and emerging creators to produce innovative theatre for young audiences. As a result, our productions are often invited to perform at international festivals, theatres, and arts centres abroad. Almost all of our performances travel across borders; in fact, about a quarter of them take place outside Belgium—across Europe and sometimes even further afield—to inspire new audiences and introduce the international field to the artistic strength of hetpaleis.

knowledge sharing and expertise
Alongside our artistic practice, we also build international knowledge and expertise around creating theatre for young audiences.
Involving children and young people as co-creators in professional productions is one of hetpaleis’ distinctive areas of expertise. To share this know-how, we are regularly invited to take part in conferences and professional knowledge-sharing events.
international networks and exchange
hetpaleis also connects Flanders with the rest of the world by actively taking on a leading role within ASSITEJ Belgium (the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People). In addition, we link the Flemish field to a global network of colleagues and collaborative opportunities.
international collaboration at hetpaleis
hetpaleis not only tours extensively abroad, but also seeks out connections and collaborations that enrich its internal practice with international perspectives. At least once every two years, we create an international co-production, and we open our house to international creations, residents, and artists.
Antwerp as an international arts city
As a city theatre, we actively contribute to the international profile of the city of Antwerp. By bringing together international professionals and making the local field visible, we strengthen Antwerp as a place for international encounter and collaboration in the performing arts.
