Junior Mthombeni

Junior Mthombeni (he/him) is a theatremaker, actor and musician. Since 2016, Junior has been one of the artistic faces of KVS and he is an active creator in the collective Jr.cE.sA.r. Working with a multi-ethnic cast, Mthombeni captures the metropolitan context in contemporary musical theater, with influences from urban arts and musical traditions from all over the world.

His work as a director offers a theatrical interpretation of hot topics of current events, but equally explores the contemporary significance of inspiring figures, movements and events from the (recent) past such as Malcolm X, Dear Winnie and Who's Tupac.

In addition to creations, he also establishes a special, valuable and dynamic journey with SOCHA. That is a community of artistic performers of all generations, cultures and disciplines. Old warriors and young warriors of the performing arts search for unexpected forms, for urgent stories, for unexplored stage territory. Slam, hip-hop, theater, literature, dance, visual art, music... They find an ambitious and dynamic artistic mix that comes together in the On Fire performances. Burning City is a culmination of those On Fires, expressing the new city in all its glory, rawness and inequality.
