The performance uses strobe lighting effects.
It explores themes such as self-image and insecurity.
We all want to save the world, but what does that mean for our social status? Will you still be ‘in’ then? And how hard is it to find a personal style in an environment that constantly dictates what’s ‘in’ and what’s ‘out’?
In SEW WHAT, an ordinary afternoon’s shopping ends up in a delirious graveyard of dead trends. Clothing choices, identity choices, cottage core, tomato girl core, office siren core, medieval core, gorp core, cyber core, indie sleaze core, cleangirl core, angel core, cringe, not cringe or not cringe enough. When the choice is so vast and changes so quickly, what do you choose?
SEW WHAT is costume designer Sam Beddegenoodts’ first show. In it she explores the existential crisis that can take place in a changing room. She lets costumes be co-performers in an absurdist creation based on forgotten trends and TikTok dystopias.
