it could have gone like this
he was handsome and clever and funny
and she was clever and funny and handsome
and they saw each other and thought
hey
that
one
and they chatted and laughed and thought
funny and handsome and clever
and then
yes
this is what I don’t know
when it started
and what happened next
when the thaw began
when everything started to crack
Macy knows a lot. She knows the names of the oceans, she knows the seasons, she knows the names of birds. But as for what happened between her father and mother, she can only guess. So Macy makes up her own version.
Wat Macy weet is about what mothers and fathers say when they no longer know themselves, stories to fill the void, being someone else week after week and the importance of knowing where you stand.
Femke Heijens (HUGS) directs Hélène Devos in a monologue about a sensitive daughter of divorced parents. Angelo Tijssens (co-screenwriter of, among others, Close) is behind the script, loosely based on Henry James’s What Maisie Knew (1897), a novel about a girl who, following her parents’ divorce, lives alternately with her father and mother while trying to take control of her own life. She takes on their roles and tries to understand the world through play.
