What does it mean to live? A philosopher, a child and an adult set off on a journey with this question. The stage is empty. And yet the philosopher and the child keep seeing undiscovered landscapes and mysterious animals and life forms: wolves, bacteria, olive trees, polar bears, etc. Their curiosity is too great not to follow in their footsteps.

But for the adult following them, the stage is truly empty, and animals have long since ceased to inhabit his mind and nights. What sort of game is this, he wonders. Do they really mean this? Hesitantly, he accepts the invitation to enter the world of the philosopher and the child and to set his mind (and ours) free.

The finale, with its moving beauty, leaves a lasting impression: you simply have to take the time to watch it, observe it, and believe once more in the possibility of a new beginning.

Tg STAN’s leading figure Jolente De Keersmaeker and French choreographer Jérôme Bel created Recommencer ce monde in 2024, in collaboration with French art historian Estelle Zhong Mengual, a French-language production based on the work of contemporary French philosopher Baptiste Morizot. De Wereld Herbeginnen is now the Dutch-language version of this work.
