Every year, countless spruces and pine trees are felled, but what do those trees themselves actually think about this? Do they queue up every year, eagerly waiting to be chosen, or do they cower behind one another, only to be felled anyway?
‘Oh oh oh dennenboom’ is a charming, delightfully rebellious and richly staged family show, complete with live music (ranging from rickety Christmas classics to grungy pine trees) set against a stunning pine-tree backdrop.
In Oh oh oh dennenboom, we get to know the trees in the forest. There is the elder tree – once uprooted and replanted – who is now the source of all information about what goes on among humans (played by Hendrik Kegels). There is a suicidal tree, which is just dying to be chopped down, but which, with three scrawny branches, is unsuitable for Christmas (played by Frank Focketyn).
And then the felling season begins; the tragedy has started. But this year is different. This year, they’ve had enough! Time for a pine revolution. Will the trees succeed in establishing new traditions among humans?
